SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor 9.1 - Service Pack 5

This service pack requires Orion Network Performance Monitor 9.1 (Orion NPM 9.1), and it should be installed on all Orion Network Performance Monitor servers, including any and all Additional Poller, Additional Website, and Hot Standby servers.
Orion NPM version 9.1 Service Pack 5 addresses the following issues:
- CPU Load and Percent Memory Utilization data now display correctly for SNMPv3 devices.
- Interfaces on SNMPv3 devices no longer display status as UNKNOWN.
- The Report schema has been updated to better accommodate the requirements of future Orion module development.
- A web error has been corrected by changing the method used to cache connections to the Orion server.
- Custom properties are no longer overwritten or lost when an Orion module is installed or upgraded.
In addition, Orion NPM version 9.1 Service Pack 5 updates the Job Engine to better accomodate the requirments of future Orion module development.
Orion NPM version 9.1 Service Pack 4 addressed the following issues:
- The stored values used in the calculation of data for counter-type Universal Device Poller resources have been corrected.
- Users without administrative privileges are now able to change the passwords to their own web console user accounts.
- Manual edits to properties associated with monitored devices are no longer overwritten when the devices are either updated or rediscovered.
- The web console is no longer limited to 10 simultaneous user sessions per half hour.
- This service pack provides the invoke method that is required by other Orion modules, including Orion Network Configuration Manager (Orion NCM).
Orion NPM version 9.1 Service Pack 3 addressed the following issues:
- SNMP traps now correctly execute actions based on multiple rules.
- Orion NPM now properly respects requests to stop trap processing.
- Custom property values may now be defined using variables, or macros, following the ${VARIABLE} format.
- In the web console Node Management view, nodes and groups are now sorted alphabetically when grouped using custom properties.
- The list of results obtained using the Search Nodes resource now provides both the device name and the value of the searched property for all search matches.
- Filtering performance for the Syslog view in the web console has been improved.
- The AJAx-enabled All Nodes resource now displays all defined, top-level node groups, regardless of the number of groups.
- Links included in Orion reports now use the same server name format used to locate the report initially. For example, if a report is accessed using a fully qualified domain name (FQDN), all links within the accessed report will also use the FQDN.
- The Unmanage button now functions as designed on both the APM Application Details view and the Node Details view.
- An issue resulting in blocked access to Node Management for users accessing the web console remotely using Integrated Windows Authentication has been fixed.
- The Configuration Wizard now correctly reports failures to register OrionNPMWeb.dll when the user running the Configuration Wizard does not have required write permissions.
- Improper log level settings resulting in excessive writing to npm.jobs.log and businesslayer.log have been fixed.
- Default thresholds for predefined High Transmit/Receive Percent Utilization alerts have been changed. The default trigger threshold has been changed from 2% to 75% for triggering an alert event. The default threshold for resetting a High Transmit/Receive Percent Utilization alert has been changed from 1% to 50%.
- The variable ${Node.Status} now correctly reports node status for interface alerts.
- An issue with retrieving printable reports using the Report Scheduler has been fixed.
- The Orion Web Console now properly handles the "Last Month" time period option.
In addition, a new version of the Job Engine in Orion NPM version 9.1 Service Pack 3 corrected the following issue:
- Universal Device Pollers no longer cause CPU utilization spikes and Job Engine crashes.
Orion NPM version 9.1 Service Pack 2 addressed the following issues:
- An issue where some installations incorrectly reported CPU usage on ESX servers has been fixed.
- Changes to interface captions are now correctly propagated upon network rediscovery.
- Errors encountered when calculating minimum, maximum, and average CPU usage on virtual machines have been corrected.
- Requirements sections in all Orion NPM documentation have been updated as follows: "Requirements - Operating System: Windows 2003 Server (32-bit or 64-bit) including R2, with IIS installed, running in 32-bit mode."
- MAC addresses are now properly displayed when sent in a trap message.
- Printable versions of the Alerts, Syslog, and Traps views in the Orion Web Console are now available.
- Report Writer now recognizes filter conditions defined using custom properties of the Property Type "Memo".
- Advanced Alerts tested in languages other than "English (United States)" now work correctly.
- Orion Web Console installations using Integrated Windows Authentication no longer require redundant authentication to launch the web console.
- Interface Status and Node Status variables now report verbal instead of numerical values, as designed.
- A SQL error encountered when monitoring ESX Servers before CPU shares have been assigned to hosted virtual machines has been fixed.
- An issue where custom property names were appearing when they were actually undefined has been corrected.
- The "Unmanage node" dialog in the Web Console Node Management utility now properly respects regional settings.
- The List of Virtual Machines resource in the Orion Web Console now detaches as designed.
- For users without required privileges, community strings are now hidden in the Traps view of the Orion Web Console.
- The "View All" button in the Thwack - Latest Universal Device Pollers resource now functions correctly.
- Percent Utilization charts, both in System Manager and in the Orion Web Console, are now consistent.
- An unnecessary instruction in the documentation related to configuring Pass-through Authentication for the web console has been removed.
- Searching by custom date/time has been restored to Syslog and Traps views in the web console.
- An issue resulting in a failure to properly generate the Phone Details view for Orion installations including VoIP Monitor has been fixed.
- Syslog, Alerts, and Traps views in the Orion Web Console now refresh automatically without generating postback warnings.
- An issue resulting in an Orion Website Error when editing interfaces in Orion NPM installations including NetFlow Traffic Analyzer has been fixed.
- The Toolset Integration feature available in interface list resources on the Node Details view now functions correctly.
- Report Writer now correctly recognizes filter conditions defined using custom properties newly available in Orion NPM 9.1.
- SNMP validation performed while managing nodes in the web console now uses the correct poller.
- Rule-based coloring of listed traps has been restored to the Traps view of the Orion Web Console.
- The date picking tool in the "Unmanage node" dialog has been fixed to correctly show dates in November.
- The "Unmanage node" dialog in the Web Console Node Management utility now properly displays data and time.
- The web node management utility now works correctly for the case where a monitored virtual machine keeps 12-hour time while the associated SQL Server database instance keeps 24-hour time.
- Support for missing filter parameters in both the Syslog and the Traps views of the Orion Web Console has been restored.
- An issue related to the sequential sorting of results in Universal Device Poller Top XX resources has been fixed.
In addition, a new version of the Job Engine in Orion NPM version 9.1 Service Pack 2 corrected the following issue:
- The Job Engine now updates automatically after installing service packs.
Orion NPM version 9.1 Service Pack 1 addressed the following issues
- In Orion NPM version 9.1, The option to roll up status, i.e. display the worst-case status of any child object as the status icon of the parent object, is enabled by default for maps and node lists. To configure this option or to return to the status icon setting of pre-9.1 versions of Orion NPM, complete the following steps:
1. Log on as an administrator to your Orion Web Console.
2. Click Admin in the Views toolbar.
3. Click Web Console Settings in the Settings grouping of the Orion Website Administration page.
4. Select either of the following options as your Status Rollup Mode:
- If you want the parent node status icon to show the worst status of all child devices, select Show Worst Status.
- If you only want the parent node status icon to show as yellow (warning) if there are problems with any or all child devices, select Mixed Status shows Warning.
5. Click Submit.
- The service pack executable is now signed.
- The ${VMPollingJobID} variable, formerly referred to as a macro, has been removed.
- An issue involving chart data that was missing in certain circumstances has been fixed.
- Further explanation of the function of Syslog message filtering has been added to the Syslog web console view.
- It is now possible to add new devices to the Orion database using loopback addresses in seed files.
- You are now properly notified if you reach your license limit while adding a node or volume.
- The URL provided by default in the Orion Report Scheduler New Job Wizard has been corrected to use the hostname of the Orion NPM server, instead of 127.0.0.1.
- Custom properties no longer disappear from the Custom Property for Nodes\Interfaces\Volumes resource after they are updated in the Edit Custom Node Property resource.
- VMware Min/Max/Avg charts currently report CPU Utilization values correctly.
- Percent Availability gauges have been reformatted to only display whole number percentages.
- The Universal Device Poller now properly parses IP address results.
- Web console Summary charts now display as designed for the This Month time period.
- Universal Device Poller charts now properly respect custom time periods.
- The Universal Device Poller currently allows grouping by custom properties that are floating point numbers.
- For each hosted virtual machine, the Virtual Machine Details resource now displays the percentage of memory assigned by the ESX server on which the virtual machine is hosted.
- The Current Percent Utilization of Each Interface resource now properly respects Toolset Integration rights.
- Icons in the Node Details resource have been realigned.
- The Configuration Wizard no longer fails if the selected website is configured with Windows Active Directory (AD) authentication.
- Virtual machine status is now displayed correctly, even when Orion is not managing the ESX server on which the selected virtual machine is hosted.
- When the status of a managed node is changed to unmanaged, the changed node management status is no longer reflected in the displayed status of any of the groups to which the now unmanaged node formerly belonged.
- Report Writer can now correctly filter results using the Comments custom property.
- The Orion node tree can now properly expand groups that are named using non-ASCII characters.
- Orion NPM now uses the correct object ID (OID) to determine the status of virtual machines on an ESX server.
- Emailed reports no longer attempt to access C:\NetPerfMon\view.asp.
- The View Chart Data option for Min/Max/Avg charts now correctly displays both Min and Max values.
- The Time of Day option that is available when configuring an alert action now accepts time periods that cross midnight (e.g. 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM).
- Chart Size options for Width and Height are now properly recognized for customizeable charts.
- Updates to custom properties in the Edit Custom Node Property resource now work correctly.
- The correct chart title is now displayed when you click a gauge to view its corresponding chart.
- Managing a view to change the order of displayed resources no longer results in an error.
- ESX Server resources currently report CPU Utilization values correctly.
- Changes made to any Universal Device Poller chart using the corresponding Custom Chart page are now properly respected.
- The correct title is now displayed when you click Refresh after editing a chart title on a Custom Chart page.
- The Select All and Deselect All buttons have been restored to their proper function on the Syslog view.
- Global settings regarding the interval between node rediscoveries are now properly respected for new devices added using Web Node Management.
- A new option has been provided for handling nodes with undefined custom properties. These nodes are now either grouped as Unknown or the assigned custom property for which they are undefined is ignored for grouping purposes.
- Automatic login configured using a DirectLink account now works correctly when using Windows Active Directory (AD) authentication.
- The full URL for any Orion NPM chart is now available for copying into Custom HTML or Text resources.
- Orion NPM is currently insensitive to special characters in usernames.
- Virtual machines are removed from the Orion database if they are no longer detected on a monitored ESX server.
- Custom property values that include a single quote (') are now acceptable for grouping (e.g. O'Hare is now an acceptable custom property for grouping).
- The Orion database no longer stores negative values for the memory utilization of suspended virtual machines.
- Viewing Raw or Chart Data for Universal Device Poller charts no longer results in an error.
- Traps and Syslog views are now available to users in locales other than EN-US.
- Filtering for Syslog messaging and Traps now works correctly when Syslog or Traps views are accessed from other Orion resources.
- Report Scheduler now provides correctly formatted chart and gauge image URLs for emailed reports.
- The virtual machine configuration file location may now contain up to 250 characters.
- The time required to complete database maintenance has been decreased significantly.
A new version of the Job Engine in Orion NPM version 9.1 Service Pack 1 corrected the following issue:
- Job Engine SDF file corruption no longer occurs.
To install this service pack, run Orion-9.1-Update.exe or Orion-9.1-Update-Eval.exe.
