Announcing availability of Kiwi CatTools v3.9!

We are pleased to announce the general availability of SolarWinds Kiwi CatTools v3.9.


Version 3.9 includes the following enhancements:

  • New support for MicroTik™ devices
  • Additional support for devices from several other vendors
  • Several important bug fixes


Kiwi CatTools v3.9 is available for download in your customer portal for those customers under current SolarWinds Kiwi CatTools maintenance.

How to Activate

To activate or upgrade to Kiwi CatTools v3.9, you will need to use a new SolarWinds license key. You can retrieve your new license key by logging in to the Customer Portal. After signing on to the portal, click “License Management” on the left-hand navigation, and then scroll down to your “Kiwi CatTools” section.  Copy (Ctrl+C) the license code from this section.


To apply your new license:


  1. Open Kiwi CatTools v3.9. (Close any “buy now” window that may appear.)
  2. Select the “Help | Enter registration details” from the main menu.
  3. Click the “Enter Licensing Information” button.
  4. Paste (Ctrl+P) the license code into the appropriate field and complete your registration.

SolarWinds License Manager - Reset licenses w/out contacting Customer Service

SolarWinds is proud to announce the release of the SolarWinds License Manager.  This free application allows you to easily move SolarWinds applications to a new machine.  Please follow the steps below for accessing the SolarWinds License Manager and ensure to have your CustomerID and Password readily available.

1.      Download the SolarWinds License Manager from the Downloads section in the Customer Portal at http://www.solarwinds.net/support.

2.      Install the SolarWinds License Manager on the machine with the SolarWinds application(s) installed.

3.      Select the SolarWinds application(s) to deactivate. (All SolarWinds applications are supported excluding ipMonitor and LANsurveyor)

4.      Once the deactivation is successful, you can install the released SolarWinds software on the new server.

5.      (Optional) To remove the application(s) from the original SolarWinds machine, you will need to uninstall the application(s).

Kiwi Syslog 9.2.1 Service Release Available for Download

We are pleased to announce the availability of the Kiwi Syslog 9.2.1 Service Release.  There was only one issue resolved in this service release which was:

 

  • Web Access cannot connect after 9.2 update.  The user would see an error stating - "An error occurred while initializing this session.  The session has been abandonned."  "Kiwi Syslog WebAccess requires Kiwi Syslog Server to be onine, but is offline".
This Service Release can be downloaded from the SolarWinds Customer Portal.

IPAM Beta can now do ISC DHCP management via web interface.

Kiwi CatTools v3.8 is now available!

Kiwi CatTools v3.8 is now available for download in your customer portal, for those of you who have an active maintenance.

 

This release is mostly about fixing issues and making improvements related to support of very visible devices, in the market place (e.g. support for Palo Alto, SonicWall and several other improvements to already supported devices such as F5 BigIP new OS versions).

Announcing General Availability of Orion NPM 10.0

We are proud to announce the General Availability of Orion NPM 10.0.  Below you will find a set of the major features with this new release.  You can download the new release from your customer portal.

Also, please find the release notes here

Along with the 10.0 release, we are also releasing a new component, which you can find in the additional components section of the customer support portal. This component allows you to schedule the "unmanaging" or maintenance windows of nodes, interfaces and application.  You can read more about it Scheduling unmanage task for nodes, interfaces and applications.

Features of This Version

Orion NPM version 10.0 provides the following new features and enhancements:

Scheduled Discovery

With the addition of scheduled discovery, you can now automatically perform regular network discoveries at any time of the day or night. Using the Network Sonar Wizard, you can easily schedule discoveries to occur whenever best suits your network monitoring and management requirements.

VMware vSphere Monitoring

This version of Orion NPM adds the ability to monitor VMware vSphere installations by employing the VMware API to supplement ESX/ESXi server data available to SNMP polling.

Syslog and Traps

The following Syslog and Traps features have been included in this version of Orion NPM:

  • Using the standard Orion ${vbName1} and ${vbData1}variable format,, trap variable binding names and value pairs are now available as alerting and message variables.
  • The Trap Viewer now allows you to use pattern matching on trap details to create custom trap alerts.
  • Orion NPM node variables are now available for use in Syslog and trap alerts.
  • Syslog and trap alerts now respect unmanaged node status.
  • Orion NPM can now change the status of an interface based on the content of a trap message.
  • Forwarded Syslog messages may now be configured to retain the IP address of the original message source.
  • Forwarded Syslog messages may also be configured to spoof network packets using WinPCap 3.0+.

Product Update Notifications

Receive regular, automatic notification of updates to your installed Orion monitoring and management applications in the Orion Web Console as soon as they are available from SolarWinds. Product updates can include upgrade opportunities, service packs, and hotfixes.

ConnectNow

Using topology data collected during network discovery, the ConnectNow feature in Orion Network Atlas can automatically draw lines between map objects that are directly linked (Layer 2) on your network.

Other Features in this Release

The following features have also been included in this version of Orion NPM:

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 is now officially supported.
  • Improvements to Events, Syslog, Traps, and Web Node Management views have improved overall Orion Web Console performance.
  • Network Atlas performance has been enhanced, allowing accelerated loading of larger numbers of maps.
  • Network Sonar Discovery has been improved to better handle the full discovery of nodes with large numbers of interfaces.
  • The Orion Web Console user interface has been improved with the inclusion of module-specific tabs and breadcrumbs for more intuitive navigation.
  • The Database Maintenance utility has been improved to run maintenance tasks more efficiently.
  • The ability to post a URL using HTTP GET or HTTP POST methods as an alert action has been added.

Now is your chance to tell us about your experiences with Toolset (the good, the bad and the ugly)!  We'll be conducting one hour 1:1 phone interviews using GoToMeeting next week, the week of December 12, with both current users and Toolset abandoners.  For current users, please note we'll be very interested to see what tools (if any) you currently use and how you use them, so some segment ofthe interview will focus on us making you presenter so that you can show us how you use Toolset in your environment. Orion 8.5.1 - Service Pack 3 Now available

This service pack requires Orion 8.5.1.

Service Pack 3 includes a new web resource named "All Nodes - Tree (AJAX)". This is an incrementally loaded version of the "All Nodes - Tree" resource that appears on the Network Summary Home view by default. This new AJAX resource should perform better when monitoring  a larger number of nodes. To support this resource, the Microsoft ASP.NET AJAX Extensions package (ASPAJAXExtSetup.msi) is installed with SP3.

Service Pack 3 resolves the following issues:
- CPU load is now polled correctly for Windows devices with a large number of processes
- Alert actions now work correctly with day of week filtering
- Maps with non-ASCII names now appear correctly on the website
- Execution of an external program or of VBScript with parameters now works correctly for Advanced Alert Actions and Trap rules
- Alert Engine no longer repeatedly reports database connection errors
- Database Details web page no longer results in a timeout error
- Edit Custom List of Reports resource no longer results in a "Page cannot be found" error
- The Report from Orion Report Writer resource now loads asynchronously
- Website accounts are now configured correctly if Application Monitor is installed before the Configuration Wizard is run
- A memory leak is fixed in the Custom Poller service
- Web account limitations are now honored in Interface Traffic 95th Percentile reports
- "The passed ordinal is out of range" error no longer occurs when upgrading certain older databases
- Interface Traffic 95th Percentile reports no longer fail when throughput exceeds 2 GBps
- Old OrionWeb.log files are now deleted automatically
- The service pack version number is now available in the website footer
 
This service pack includes the following fixes that were resolved in Service Packs 1 and 2:
- Repeat intervals for alerts are no longer limited to 8 hours
- The SolarWinds.Net Windows Event Log now overwrites as needed, eliminating the "SolarWinds.Net log file is full" message
- New databases are now created case insensitive, even if the server default is case sensitive
- CPU load is now polled correctly for Cisco devices that do not support the CISCO-PROCESS-MIB
- Some missing Cisco devices are now correctly identified
- The Alerting Engine service is now disabled by default on the Hot Standby, Additional Website, and Additional Poller installs to reduce database contention
- Syslog reports can now be configured
- Improvements to the Custom Polling Service allow it to keep up with larger custom polling configurations
- The ability to set a subtitle is restored for the All Nodes resource
- Clicking the Manage button now immediately remanages the node
- Account Limitations now work correctly with Windows Authentication
- Account information is now removed from emails sent with Report Scheduler
- Additional diagnostic information is now available to the diagnostic tool
- All Nodes resource works correctly when Level 1 grouping is "None"
- Unmanaging a node now immediately updates node status to Unmanaged
- ICMP packets are no longer empty by default
- An HTML link entered for a device contact will now be shown as a link on the website

Orion NPM 9.5 Service Pack 3 Available

SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor 9.5 - Service Pack 3 is now available and can be downloaded from the customer portal

 

This service pack requires either Orion Network Atlas or Orion Network Performance Monitor version 9.5 (Orion NPM 9.5). This service pack should be installed on all Orion NPM servers, including any and all Additional Poller, Additional Website, and Hot Standby servers, and on all computers on which Orion Network Atlas is installed.

Orion NPM version 9.5 Service Pack 3 addresses the following issues:

 - Monitored wireless access points are no longer removed from the Wireless Summary view in the web console when they are designated as unmanaged.
 - Interface removal events are now properly reported on Events views and in Event Summary resources on Node Details views.
 - The Wireless Summary view now correctly handles the situation where a single wireless access point is added, deleted, and then added again.
 - The Last Database Sync is now accurately reported in Polling Engine Status resources.
 - Orion APM event links in the Last XX Events resource now function as intended.
 - A variable has been corrected to fix the Search by IP Address feature of the Traps view.
 - Grouping by Status on the Web Node Management view now correctly reports corresponding interface counts.
 - Label alignment and distribution options in Network Atlas have been enabled as designed.
 - Status icons for application and component monitors from Orion APM are now available in Network Atlas.
 - Color-coding for events in Events views and resources has been restored.
 - Report ordering has been corrected so reports are shown in the web console and previewed in Report Writer consistently.
 - A required time parser function has been included to fix an exception encountered when viewing web console reports.
 - An issue involving Traps filtering has been fixed so filtered results are displayed consistently in both the web console and in    Orion Trap Viewer.
 - Monitoring support for Brocade fiber optic switches has been restored.
 - Reports generated by Orion APM, Orion NTA, and Orion VoIP Monitor now display correctly in the web console.
 - An issue causing a timeout when multiple connections to the Orion database are improperly maintained has been fixed.
 - The default location for local storage of temporary Network Atlas file is now C:\Windows\Temp.
 - A SQL error encountered when viewing traps for a device selected in the Traps view of the web console has been corrected.
 - Network Sonar now properly handles the case where duplicate community strings are provided for device discovery.
 - Typographical errors in some web console resources have been corrected.
 - As in prior versions of Orion NPM, deleted node names are reset upon network rediscovery if no new value is provided.
 - The ability to include maps in scheduled reports has been restored.
 - Nodes with a severity of 0 now display properly in CPU Load, Memory Utilization, Packet Loss, and Response Time resources.
 - Network Sonar now properly allows the discovery of devices with SNMP credentials that include multiple ampersands (&).
 - Variables, or macros, of the form ${Variable} or ${TableName.Variable}, are now available in Custom HTML and User Links  web console resources.
 - EnergyWise Readiness Reports no longer incorrectly report Cisco IOS compatibility.
 - A memory leak related to displaying Network Atlas maps in the Orion Web Console has been fixed.
 - Automatic page refresh for web console reports has been restored.
 - Event information provided in the Current Events view of the Alert Manager is now consistent with event information provided in the Events view of the web console.
 - Selected variables, or macros, that were not working correctly in Network Atlas maps and map tooltips have been fixed.
 - An issue related to IP address variables in SNMP trap templates has been corrected.
 - Parent and child map status icons are now represented consistently both in Network Atlas and in web console map tooltips.
 - Parent map status icons accurately reflect when the states of child maps are mixed or when any of the nodes on a child map are in a state that is generally ignored, otherwise , such as unmanaged, administratively shutdown, external, or unplugged.
 - The relative hierarchy of parent and child maps is now retained when parent-child maps are imported into Network Atlas.
 - Icons for nodes containing interfaces that are either all up or all unplugged now display correctly in Network Atlas.
 - Network Atlas now provides icons for applications and components monitored by Orion Application Performance Monitor (Orion APM).
 - Network Atlas now correctly reports down nodes on nested maps as Down instead of as Unknown.

Orion NPM version 9.5 Service Pack 2 addressed the following issues:

 - The SolarWinds Orion Module Engine service now stops and restarts as designed when an Orion NPM server reboots.
 - Tabular Universal Device Pollers now correctly update the Orion database with new device connections.
 - The Orion database correctly records and retains the changed IP addresses of DHCP nodes.
 - The trend line feature has been included as an option for all "Total"-type charts.
 - An error related to the Database Maintenance procedure that creates hourly summaries of historical data has been fixed.
 - Values reported in interface-related Top X resources are now rounded to two decimal places. 
 - Node captions now update correctly when they are edited using Web Node Management.
 - The web console correctly displays custom properties in custom Orion APM and Orion NTA reports.
 - Nodes designated temporarily as unmanaged now properly respect configured management time periods.
 - It is now possible to remove the trend lines feature from Universal Device Poller charts.
 - Average and peak values are now presented correctly in Orion Report Writer traffic reports.
 - An error related to the creation of rogue access point reports has been corrected.
 - An issue on some installations with Orion Network Traffic Analyzer where the installation wizard hangs before loading the configuration wizard has been corrected.
 - The border has been removed from the sample map on the Network Summary Home view for new installations.
 - The ${Status} variable has been restored for monitored interfaces and volumes.
 - Default resources deleted from web console views are no longer automatically restored after running the configuration wizard.
 - Customized views are no longer automatically restored to their default configurations after running the configuration wizard.
 - Web console performance with respect to loading large and nested network maps has been improved.
 - The Syslog view in the web console now displays appropriate severity icons with each listed Syslog message.
 - Web Node Management now supports sorting nodes by both read-only and read/write community strings.
 - Custom reports using advanced SQL queries and grouping now display correctly in the web console.
 - SQL filtering in All Nodes and Down Nodes resources has been restored.
 - Double quote (") characters in interface names and captions no longer reveal HTML coding in the Network Map resource.
 - Custom reports that include event time fields now display correctly in the web console.
 - The Advanced Node Details resource now displays correctly in the web console.
- Reports created in Orion Report Writer before the Orion Web Console was implemented are now viewable in the web console.
 - Properties of objects represented by custom graphics on Network Atlas maps can now be edited, as designed.
 - Sorting has been restored to the Volumes with High Percent Utilization resource in the web console.
 - Selected default Database Maintenance settings have been edited to improve overall performance.
 - The ability to export report data to .csv, .txt, .xml, .xls, and .html formats has been restored.
 - Nodes imported using Web Node Management that are designated as external are no longer designated as ICMP-only.
 - Additional Aruba wireless controller platforms are now supported for wireless monitoring.
 - The EnergyWise entity power level is now correctly displayed for all EnergyWise-enabled interface entities.
 - Images on maps created in Map maker are now retained through an upgrade to Network Atlas, as designed.
 - The ability to import custom graphics to represent device states on maps has been added to Network Atlas.
 - An issue limiting the ability of the ImportMapBatch utility to import more than 8 maps at once has been fixed.
 - The directory where copies of new maps created with Network Atlas has been corrected, so these maps are now available for viewing in the web console.
 - The advanced alerting engine has been updated to continue alerting when the database connection is lost and then reconnected.

Orion NPM version 9.5 Service Pack 1 addressed the following issues:

 - 95th percentile reports now properly respect user account limitations.
 - An OID has been added to the SolarWinds MIB database to fix an error that would cause the trap service to stop responding.
 - Maps displayed in the web console, including nested maps, now correctly respect account limitations.
 - An error message has been provided to indicate when listing the interfaces on a selected node will exceed the license.
 - The Configuration Wizard now allows Unicode SQL User Names.
 - Edits to settings, including both the Default Interface Poll and the Default Rediscovery Intervals, on the Orion Polling Settings page are now recognized properly.
 - A memory leak created during initialization of a third-party control has been fixed.
 - Network Atlas now allows manual editing of font sizes.
 - Edits to the Network Map resource titles are now retained through an upgrade.
 - The Search for Wireless Clients resource has been updated.
 - The calculation of energy savings on EnergyWise Power Consumption Summary reports has been corrected.
 - A condition where data is missing from some EnergyWise graphs has been fixed.
 - It is now possible to maintain the Orion Web Console alongside multiple other websites on supported operating systems, provided each website is on its own port.
 - The Advanced Alert Manager now provides the correct Current Levels for alerts on EnergyWise entities.
 - Tooltips on nested maps in the Network Map resource of the web console now display as designed.
 - The List of Objects on Network Map resource properly respects user account limitations.
 - Monitored thin access points are no longer removed from the List of Thin Access Points resource when they go down.
 - Difference and counter calculations used in wireless resources have been corrected.
 - The Traps view of the web console properly respects user account limitations.
 - Correct percent packet loss values are now reported on the Average Response Time & Packet Loss resource.
 - Customized Top XX resources on the Top 10 view of the web console now display correct titles.
 - An issue resulting in data apparently missing from some wireless resources has been fixed.
 - The Toolset integration executable has been updated, and it is now signed.
 - EnergyWise Readiness Reports now display "Yes" and "No", instead of "0" and "1", respectively.
 - Network Wide Average Response Time charts now properly respect custom time period settings.
 - The performance of some web console resources has been improved to decrease response and load times.
 - A condition causing an Orion Website Error when a listed IP address is clicked in a Last XX Traps resource has been fixed.
 - The Search Wireless Nodes resource has been included with this service pack.
 - The Bulk Upload network discovery selection method now functions correctly.
 - Adding a wireless access point using the Add Node feature of Web Node Management now proceeds as designed.
 - Wireless resources now properly respect user account limitations.
 - When a link is assigned to a single node on a Network Atlas map, the assignment is now saved and the link itself provides a hyperlink to the appropriate Node Details web console view.
 - An issue regarding the maximum power consumption line on EnergyWise resources has been corrected.
 - An improved method is now used to detect EnergyWise-enabled devices running an unsupported IOS.
 - An issue that could suspend polling or rediscovery started from Web Node Management has been fixed.
 - The SQL Server Compatibility Level is now checked and then reset, if needed.
 - Errors found while running the Configuration Wizard on a repair have been fixed.
 - After an upgrade to Network Atlas, existing child map links open in the same window as their parent maps, as designed.
 - Links on child maps are now retained, as designed, through an upgrade to Network Atlas.

Orion NPM 10.0 Service Pack 1 Now Available

SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor 10.0 - Service Pack 1 is now available and can be downloaded from the customer portal 

This service pack requires Orion Network Performance Monitor 10.0 (Orion NPM 10.0), and it should be installed on all Orion Network Performance Monitor servers, including any and all Additional Poller, Additional Website, and Hot Standby servers.

Orion NPM version 10.0 Service Pack 1 provides the following features:

  •  Orion NPM can now be installed on Windows Servers on which Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) are enabled.
  •  A new NPM Network Topology resource showing how monitored devices are directly connected.
  •  The SolarWinds Information Service (SWIS) has been updated to version 2.3.
  •  The SolarWinds Job Engine has been updated to version 1.5.

Note: Orion NPM installations on Windows server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 require a Microsoft hotfix to realize the FIPS-compatibility features of this service pack. For more information about this required Microsoft hotfix, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981119.

Orion NPM version 10.0 Service Pack 1 addresses the following issues:

  •  The variable ${APM_ApplicationAlertsData.APM_ApplicationAlertsDataDetailsURL} is now available.
  •  The orientation of radial MOS gauges has been corrected to display more intuitively.
  •  The y-axis scaling of packet loss charts has been improved to better display low values.
  •  An improved algorithm is now used to upgrade Syslog tables containing more than 1 million records.
  •  Help links from ancillary Orion NPM applications have been corrected.
  •  Web console views containing the VoIP Interfaces resource now display correctly.
  •  Reports are now grouped and sorted consistently between the web console and Report Writer.
  •  The Configuration Wizard now properly sets the default database for both new Orion NPM user accounts and exisiting users using new databases.
  •  A JavaScript error condition arising when notes are included with alerts in the web console has been corrected.
  •  Sorting on the Last 250 events report no longer generates a "No activity to report" error.
  •  A RunQuery failure encountered when grouping is set after applying custom properties to an interface has been fixed.
  •  Alert actions are now properly suppressed for objects in the Unmanaged state.
  •  External nodes are no longer displayed in the Nodes with High Response Time resource.
  •  Polling and retention settings are no longer reset to default values on upgrade to Orion NPM 10.0.
  •  An error preventing access to the Node Details view for some non-administrative users has been corrected.
  •  A condition preventing access to the Alerts and Events views in the web console has been corrected.
  •  Typographical errors in the web console have been corrected.
  •  An issue with the Toolset Integration that prevents the correct display of web console views has been fixed.
  •  "Interface Disappeared" events are no longer generated for interfaces designated as Unmanaged.
  •  Interface filtering options have been restored to the Custom Property Editor.
  •  The performance of selected daily reports has been improved.
  •  An issue related to maintaining wireless data while upgrading to Orion NPM version 10.0 has been corrected.
  •  Orion NPM now correctly parses MAC addresses starting with non-zero values for Cisco thin access points.
  •  An error related to installation of the NPM Update Descriptor package has been resolved.
  •  License Manager now displays correct version information after upgrade to Orion NPM version 10.0.
  •  Report preview functionality has been restored for reports with the "Group historical data by days" option enabled.
  •  DateTime custom properties are now correctly formatted and displayed in Web Node Management views.
  •  Traps maintenance, including the deletion of old trapvarbinds, has been accelerated.

How to Activate

To activate or upgrade to Kiwi CatTools v3.9, you will need to use a new SolarWinds license key. You can retrieve your new license key by logging in to the Customer Portal. After signing on to the portal, click “License Management” on the left-hand navigation, and then scroll down to your “Kiwi CatTools” section.  Copy (Ctrl+C) the license code from this section.


To apply your new license:


  1. Open Kiwi CatTools v3.9. (Close any “buy now” window that may appear.)
  2. Select the “Help | Enter registration details” from the main menu.
  3. Click the “Enter Licensing Information” button.
  4. Paste (Ctrl+P) the license code into the appropriate field and complete your registration.

Kiwi Syslog 9.2.1 Service Release Available for Download

We are pleased to announce the availability of the Kiwi Syslog 9.2.1 Service Release.  There was only one issue resolved in this service release which was:

 

  • Web Access cannot connect after 9.2 update.  The user would see an error stating - "An error occurred while initializing this session.  The session has been abandonned."  "Kiwi Syslog WebAccess requires Kiwi Syslog Server to be onine, but is offline".
This Service Release can be downloaded from the SolarWinds Customer Portal.

SolarWinds Kiwi Syslog Server 9.3 has been officially released and is now available for download for all existing Kiwi Syslog customers under active maintenance through your customer portal.
